A report of mine blew up today because he felt I kept him in the dark and I didn’t pull him in when required, and that I had sidelined him even though he really should have been owning it because he was the SME.
All valid points. How do I as a manager tell him though that the reason I am doing all of it is to inherently protect him; that he had a small HR complaint against him (no, nothing serious), and that a VP specifically requested he not be included because of his cynical attitude even though he is a smart chap?
