Today morning I was remembering how Hobbes came into our household. We had picked a breeder after much research, and it was a mutual fit after they interviewed us. When the pups came along, right from their 5th week we were invited to puppy playdates to meet & greet puppies. The idea was we got to meet the pups, see them super young and let our breeders know what characteristics were we looking for. Our eyes were mostly set on two pups that seemed to hang around with us more often than others, and based on our 1:1 convo with breeder during playdate we were almost convinced we would matched with one of the two given our bias towards them already.
Except we didnt. In fact none of the 8 families that expressed their preference towards a particular pup was matched with them. Instead every one of us was matched with a pup that breeder thought was best fit for their lifestyle, the way we handled pups and past interviews with them. Of the 8 puppies, we never met Hobbes even once as he was always somewhere else. So yes, initially we were a bit disappointed to be matched with a pup that we had not once interacted in the 4 play dates we had.
We couldn’t have been more wrong. We were matched with the most perfect puppy that we wanted. Hobbes has that perfect blend of laziness and active personality that works great for us! He is ready to play when we want to, but he is also not hyper that he requires hour long play to tire him out. He can chill by himself whole day and then spend next couple of hours in light play or he’s just happy to be around you. Funny enough all 8 families matched with what they wanted. The two pups that we preferred initially? One turned into a hyper energy ball that a family of 3 kids (& a dog) perfectly matched with, while the other one is an ultra lazy dog that loves to chill all day long and doesnt like any activity, perfectly matching with an older couple who didnt want a hyper one. And we got the best of all worlds!
