We moved back to VA because of our friends and the little ties we have left off as a family. But increasingly the weather out here is getting so miserable and wretched we are seriously considering moving out after the kid goes off to college. When I moved twenty plus years ago I do not remember these endless stretches of rain engulfing the area. We actually have seasons here which I love, but it increasingly it feels like it just rains forever and ever. Take for instance the last two weeks. It has rained non-stop literally for the last two weeks with litle or no end in sight. Lack of sun really depresses me and I am at that point where I am just low. I truly don’t remember weather being like this in our area - climate change has made everything so much worse. Fuck it, if Arizona turns reliably blue for a while we will seriously consider a sun drenched city there!
I opened a role in my team last Thursday. In the 4 days it’s been open, I am looking at a pool of 300+ applicants. I have another 50+ messages to sift through that came in internally or via LinkedIn. 99% of the applicants are Indians or South Asians! In spite of clearly specifying the locations I am hiring for, I am getting pings from folks in India who are like dont worry about visa issues, I will figure out how to get there, just give me the job!. I am like bro, WTF are you even on and no I am not entertaining such requests. It’s such a tough market out there ooof. [I am surprised though at the lack of non south asian talent pool though. Or my company’s reputation is so down the drain only south asians apply anymore because majority of them have visa issues?]
I honestly don’t feel anything for the people of the Appalachia impacted by Helene in the Carolinas or Georgia or Tennessee or other places. Because I know it in my heart that if such a tragedy were to befall the Northern Virginia area, these same residents of the said states would go out of their way with their dear leader to deny us any help or aid. They would revel in our misery and celebrate the deaths because they got to own the libs. They keep making the same goddamn voting choices that got them here. I am sorry I don’t give a shit what happens to you because if I was in the opposite side in Northern Virginia you would go out of your way to make my life even more miserable. Sold my 2009 MDX to Carvana today. The whole process was via app first to get the offer, then taking the SUV to the Carvana drop-off. At the drop off took less than 10 minutes to finish checks, remove plates, take the check and be on our way. Carvana offered me way more for my car than anyone else, and I probably would not have sold it for that much in a private sale either. The SUV had many issues including broken side mirror enclosure. When we were purchasing the minivan I tried trading in and multiple dealers basically told me they would pay me 1k and then junk the car. Carvana offered me 4k and handed out the check with minimum fuss. While I am thrilled to get this much for my car knowing the obvious issues, I wonder how the heck is Carvana going to make any money out of it!
The camera control button is literally the worst designed button on the iPhone 16. Why is it there in the place it is? All it is it gets in the way. It’s not intuitive at all and it does not make taking pictures easier at all. It’s a solution looking for a problem to solve.

There is a myth that perpetuates in tech world that Indians are the most political tribe in the company. Let me tell you whites are equally bad. My experience in multiple companies in a majority white leadership setting has been exactly same as I have had in a majority Indian setting.
